RYA POWERBOAT LEVEL 2
The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is the ideal starting point for anyone who wants to handle a powerboat with confidence. Over two enjoyable and practical days, you will learn the key skills needed to operate a powerboat safely and responsibly, both at speed and in close-quarters situations. The course combines short theory sessions with plenty of time on the water, ensuring you gain real hands-on experience in a range of situations.
On successful completion, you will receive the RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate, which is accepted worldwide and can be used to apply for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC).

There is the option of reading the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Handbook which can be purchased in our office for 30 euros

Course Syllabus
1. Launching and Recovery

Preparing the boat and trailer for launching

Launching and recovering safely at a slipway

Use of lines, fenders and basic knots

Boat care and maintenance before and after use
2. Boat Handling

Starting and stopping the engine correctly

Handling the boat at slow speed in confined spaces

Turning in tight areas and controlling drift

Steering and trimming the boat for different conditions

High-speed manoeuvres and use of power trim
3. Securing to a Mooring
-
Coming alongside pontoons and other boats

Securing the boat using appropriate knots and lines

Picking up and leaving a mooring buoy
4. Man Overboard Recovery

Actions to take if someone falls overboard

Approaching and recovering a person from the water safely
5. Anchoring

Selecting a suitable anchorage

Preparing and deploying the anchor

After the Course
On successful completion, you will be awarded the RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate, recognised internationally and used as evidence of competence when applying for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC).
You’ll also have the option to upgrade your licence to the Day Skipper Motor, which extends your qualification to cover vessels up to 24 metres in length.
