Helmsman Motor Course
This two-day course covers basic boat handling, helmsmanship, safety and basic engine maintenance. It aims to teach boat handling & safety within a defined area. It is specific to the type of boat in which the course is carried out and is therefore particularly suitable as an own boat course for new owners of motor cruisers who are conscious of the difficulty and potential hazards of boat handling in the marina. It is useful for crews as well as skippers. Apart from the obvious safety benefits of extra boat handlers on board, it adds interest if everyone can contribute to the trip.
Day Skipper Motor
This four-day course gives you the chance to take charge on short passages under instruction. You will concentrate on pilotage boat handling seamanship and navigation. This course can also help you get the best from your electronic aids such as GPS and radar, which are now virtually standard equipment on modern motor cruisers. It aims to teach pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling up to the standard required to skipper a motor cruiser safely by day in familiar waters. There is also an introduction to night cruising.

On successful completion of the course you will receive the RYA day Skipper Motor license valid for Motor Yachts up to 24m in length.

Coastal Skipper Motor
This course aims to teach the skills and techniques required to skipper a motor cruiser up to 24metres in length on coastal and offshore passages by day and night. Before taking this course it is essential to have attended the Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore shorebased course. For the more ambitious skipper to improve skills and learn to make full use of the boat on longer, more complex passages. An important aspect is learning to take command and make decisions resulting in relaxed, well-planned passages and happy crew.
Yachtmaster Prep Week
The RYA Yachtmaster™ Offshore Certificate of Competence is a highly regarded worldwide qualification proving the experience and competence of a skipper. Sufficient experience and sea time form the eligibility criteria for taking the Yachtmaster™ exam.
The Yachtmaster offshore exam preparation week provides five days practical boat handling and revision of the theory with all aspects of the examination organised.
In our experience the majority of candidates require some level of preparation prior to taking the exam. This enables you to familiarise yourself with the yacht on which you will be examined and also gives you the opportunity to develop good working relations with your crew and the other candidates.
