Yachtmaster Prep Week - Motor

An RYA Yachtmaster™ needs a wealth of knowledge, not only to cope with plain sailing or motor cruising but also to be able to cope in demanding situations.

RYA Yachtmaster Pre Week - Motor

An RYA Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence is often the ultimate aim of aspiring skippers. It is a well known, highly respected qualification worldwide, proving your experience and competence as a skipper.

The ratio of student to instructor is 4:1 (usually 3:1)

Pre Course Requirements

The RYA Yachtmaster Coastal exam requires that you have a GMDSS SRC VHF Certificate & a valid First aid at sea certificate

You must have completed;

  • 50 days at sea (5 of which, being the Skipper)

  • 2500 nautical miles (half being in tidal waters)

  • 5 Passages over 60 miles (2 of which acting as Skipper)

  • 2 overnight passages over 60 miles

  • All qualifying sea time must be within 10 years prior to the exam

Most Yachtmaster candidates choose to book themselves into an RYA training centre for some tailor-made tuition to prepare them for the exam. This is not compulsory but if you have not previously undertaken any formal training it is unlikely that you will pass the exam.

*All sailing courses require a certain amount of physical activity.  If you are unsure as to your ability to take part in a course please contact us to discuss.
