Competent Crew

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to sailing, equipping you with the skills necessary to become a valuable member of any yacht crew. It's perfect for novices or those with minimal experience who desire a strong foundation before advancing to the next level. Throughout the course, you will learn the fundamental techniques required to steer a boat using a compass heading, set and trim sails, operate winches, prepare a boat to enter and leave a harbour, pick up moorings and anchors, and perform basic ropework and knot tying.

Pre-Course Requirements

The RYA Competent Crew course was designed for students with little experience, therefore there are no formal course requirements.

Our advice is to pick up the RYA Competent Crew Handbook and have a stress free read through so you are familiar with some of the vocabulary used on yachts.

*All sailing courses require a certain amount of physical activity.  If you are unsure as to your ability to take part in a course please contact us to discuss.
